Available at selected times, the SEN Guided Tour of Poole’s Cavern offers a quieter, more accessible experience.

Unlike our standard tours, this experience includes:
• A blend of traditional guiding and interactive zones

• Limited to 12 participants for a more comfortable visit
• Service dogs welcome (no other dogs permitted)

Practical information

  • Opening hours: Open year-round, with seasonal variations.
  • Facilities: On-site visitor centre, café, gift shop, and picnic areas.
  • Parking: Our car park operates a pay & display system (parking is free for Blue Badge holders and BCA Oak Members).
  • Accessibility: Wheelchair users can access the main chamber of the cave, which is 100 metres/300ft long unassisted. There are 28 steps along the remaining cave path, 14 up and 14 down. The longest descent is 10 steps, which lead to the final chamber 300metres/1000ft from the entrance. Groups return along the same route.
  • The cavern temperature is a constant 7.5°C, warm clothing is recommended!
  • Pushchair parking: For those visiting with young children, a pushchair station is available at the cave entrance (items left at your own risk), and child carriers are recommended for a more comfortable experience.
  • Poole’s Cavern is a designated SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest).
  • Nearby attractions: Combine your trip with a visit to Buxton Country Park and explore our woodland sculpture trails up to Solomon’s Temple! For those looking for an extra thrill, Go Ape is conveniently located on our site too!

  • The main chamber of Poole’s Cavern is wheelchair accessible (100 metres from the entrance).
  • The remaining tour includes 28 steps.
  • The cave is lit by LED lighting throughout. Please note that lighting levels may vary in different areas of the cave and in different sections on the path.
  • The cave is a constant 7.5°C all year round. Please wear appropriate warm clothing and footwear.
  • Buxton Country Park trails can be steep and uneven.

What to bring

  • Wear sturdy footwear and warm clothing – the cave is a constant 7.5°C.
  • A carrier is recommended for toddlers and infants.
  • For dogs – bring a short lead and waste bags.

Dog-friendly information

Dogs are welcome in the visitor centre, café, shop and on standard cavern tours.
Dogs must be on a lead in the park due to surrounding farmland with livestock.
