Cave opening hours

Open year-round with seasonal variations.

The cave will be closed to all visitors on Monday 6th July for essential maintenance. The Café, Gift Shop, Woodland Trails, Thomas’s Trail and Car Park will remain open as normal. The cave will reopen as usual from Tuesday 7th, and we’ll be ready to welcome you back underground!

Location: Green Lane, Buxton, Derbyshire, SK17 9DH.

Parking:
Our car park operates a pay & display system (parking is free for Blue Badge holders and BCA Oak Members).

Public transport:
Buxton train station is a 15-minute walk away.

Poole’s Cavern & Buxton Country Park

  • The main chamber of Poole’s Cavern is wheelchair accessible (100 metres from the entrance).
  • The remaining tour includes 28 steps.
  • The cave is lit by LED lighting throughout. Please note that lighting levels may vary in different areas of the cave and in different sections on the path.
  • The cave is a constant 7.5°C all year round. Please wear appropriate warm clothing and footwear.
  • Buxton Country Park trails can be steep and uneven.

What to bring

  • Wear sturdy footwear and warm clothing – the cave is a constant 7.5°C.
  • A carrier is recommended for toddlers and infants.
  • For dogs – bring a short lead and waste bags.

Dog-friendly information

Dogs are welcome in the visitor centre, café, shop and on standard cavern tours.
Dogs must be on a lead in the park due to surrounding farmland with livestock.
