Buxton Civic Association seeks new Trustees to help shape the future of the town’s heritage and environment

Buxton Civic Association (BCA) is inviting skilled and committed individuals to join its Board of Trustees, as the organisation embarks on an exciting new chapter in its mission to protect, promote, and enhance the historic and natural environment of Buxton.

As a registered charity and a vital part of Buxton’s civic life since 1967, BCA manages over 160 acres of local amenity woodlands, including Grin Low Woods, and operates Poole’s Cavern – the town’s most visited paid attraction. The charity is seeking new Trustees to help steer its commercial development, diversify its income, and ensure the long-term sustainability of its unique environmental and heritage assets.

Dave Green, CEO of Buxton Civic Association, said:

“This is a significant moment for BCA. As we look to expand the reach and impact of our work, we are seeking Trustees who share our vision for Buxton — a town that celebrates its remarkable past while looking confidently to the future. We are particularly keen to welcome people with experience in areas like finance, tourism, visitor experience, retail, hospitality, or charity governance. But above all, we’re looking for people who care deeply about Buxton and want to help shape its future.”

Trustees are volunteers and play a vital role in overseeing BCA’s governance, strategic direction, and key projects. With plans for continued investment in Poole’s Cavern and expanded environmental programmes, the organisation is particularly keen to hear from individuals who can offer insight, leadership, and time (approximately one day per month) to help deliver its charitable mission.

Peter Phillipson, Chair of BCA’s Board of Trustees, added:

“BCA is a unique organisation — one that combines the energy of a visitor attraction with the purpose of a conservation charity. We need people who bring a thoughtful, collaborative approach and who are excited about supporting our staff and volunteer team. We welcome applications from all backgrounds and are committed to building a Board that reflects the diversity of our town and the many communities we serve.”

How to Apply

Applicants should send a CV and a short covering letter (no more than two sides of A4) outlining their interest in the role and what they could bring to the Board to:
