We are now recruiting for the following roles

Trustee

Trustee (Volunteer)

About Us

Buxton Civic Association (BCA) is a dynamic environmental and heritage charity, working to preserve and enhance the unique built and natural environment of Buxton. We are the proud custodians of over 160 acres of woodlands, including Buxton Country Park and Grin Low, and the operators of Poole’s Cavern—Buxton’s most visited attraction. With a rich heritage and an ambitious vision, we’re driving forward conservation, sustainability, and public engagement.

In 2024, Buxton was named one of the best places to live in the UK. Now’s your chance to work at the heart of this vibrant town and help shape its future.

What You’ll Do

  • Contribute to the Protection of a Unique Natural and Cultural Landmark.
  • As a Trustee, you play a vital role in ensuring the long-term sustainability of Poole’s Cavern and its surrounding woodlands — safeguarding these precious assets for future generations, the local community, and thousands of visitors each year.
  • Make a Tangible Impact on Your Local Environment.
  • You’ll help shape conservation strategies, environmental education, and sustainable tourism in the High Peak area. This is a chance to directly influence biodiversity protection and ecological resilience in your own backyard.
  • Develop Strategic and Leadership Experience. Trusteeship gives you the chance to contribute to high-level decision-making and strategic planning for a
    multi-faceted charitable organisation.
  • You’ll gain valuable insights into governance, finance, visitor engagement, and environmental stewardship.
  • Learn New Skills and Apply Existing Expertise. Whether your background is in business, education, conservation, tourism, or another field, you’ll be able to transfer your professional knowledge to new challenges — and acquire new skills along the way, including project oversight, and stakeholder management.
  • Work Alongside Passionate, Like-Minded People. You’ll join a dedicated and experienced Board of Trustees and staff who are passionate about Buxton’s
heritage, landscape, and community. Collaborating with individuals from diverse backgrounds creates
    meaningful personal and professional connections.
  • Enhance Your CV and Personal Growth. Being a Trustee demonstrates leadership, commitment, and a willingness to engage with complex issues
    — all highly regarded traits in professional development. It also builds confidence in public speaking, decision-making, and teamwork.
  • Be Involved in Exciting Projects. From woodland conservation and environmental education to developing visitor experiences at Poole’s
Cavern, you’ll be involved in impactful initiatives that bring real benefit to the community and environment.

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking individuals who can:

  • Help shape, challenge, and progress our emerging strategic plan.
  • Support the delivery of the organisation’s objectives, including ambitious capital developments.
  • Assist with stakeholder engagement, partnership building, and fundraising initiatives.
